In the first full fiscal year of the pandemic, DPSS Finance and Forecasting shifted from a traditional long-range approach to a more flexible month-by-month budget management style. The shift positioned the department to successfully navigate unforeseen challenges and maintain staffing levels despite early predictions of severe budget shortfalls. Leadership Through Stewardship

CARES Act Spending

DPSS EMPLOYEES 4,260

In March 2020, the federal government enacted the Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security (CARES) Act to stabilize state, local and tribal budgets. Through June 2021, DPSS received $3.6 million in CARES funding that supported the following activities/purchases: ■ Ongoing cleaning and sanitization services for DPSS Facilities. ■ Purchased PPE and sanitization supplies for DPSS staff. ■ Purchased and installed plexiglass in DPSS lobbies. ■ Purchased telecommuting equipment. ■ Vehicle detailing/cleaning services for DPSS vehicles. ■ ASD staff time assisting elder and homeless population. ■ DPSS staff time assisting the County in the vaccination roll-out efforts including assisting. ■ DPSS staff time assisting the Office on Aging with vaccine appointments, County vaccination clinics, and the 2-1-1 program.
