Discussion of issues that arise with elders and dependent adults when it comes to sex and sexual assault. This presentation will cover sexual abuse case studies, unique challenges to investigating sexual abuse, risk factors to look for and identify, how to approach investigations with victims lacking in capacity, and how to prevent abuse. Sexual Abuse in the Elderly/Dependent Adult Population Breakout Session 3: 1:00 PM – 1:50 PM Elder Financial Exploitation is on the rise. Many seniors fall victim to trusted associates and sometimes even well-trusted family members and caregivers. Seniors are often targeted in real estate and mortgage fraud schemes, leaving them homeless and wondering how it all happened. We will look at recent case studies where vulnerable seniors have been victims of fraudulent transfers of personal property and other assets. This presentation will address how forensic accountants can help educate senior protectors and advocates on identifying red flags of elder financial exploitation and how forensic accountants use financial documents and information to examine real estate transactions and purchases. Older Adult Financial Exploitation Breakout Session 4: 2:00 PM – 2:50 PM

Overview of FBI Victim Services Program. Attendees will learn how to identify a victim, the responsibilities of Special Agents and Victim Specialists, how to identify the Victim Specialist role during an investigation, how to identify common types of crimes targeting older adults, how to recognize why older adults are vulnerable to becoming a victim, how to review types of scams, and how to identify the importance of reporting the crime and tips on protecting older adults.
