Tools to Support Interdisciplinary Approaches to Elder Abuse Intervention and Prevention Breakout Session 3: 1:50 PM - 2:50 PM Given the nuances of elder mistreatment, a multidisciplinary team (MDT) coordinated response is considered a best practice approach to address the multifactorial needs of older adults who experience abuse. To better equip MDT professionals with the tools they need to support older adults, the National Center on Elder Abuse (NCEA) has developed a series of educational and practice-based resources. The “Tips and Tools” series provides guidance on person-centered, trauma- informed, and culturally responsive approaches to working with older victims. Similarly, the Elder Abuse Guide for Law Enforcement (EAGLE) has developed complementarymaterials to meaningfully engage older victims. EAGLE tools include tips on interviewing older people with dementia, collecting evidence, and documenting indications of abuse. Through previews and discussion of materials and an interactive case study and skills application approach, the audience will learn about the NCEA and EAGLE’s resources and how to integrate these strategies into practice to optimize outcomes for older victims.
